Child Support Archives

After big financial hit, music manager gets child support cut

18065926_S.jpgWe've talked before on our St. Louis fathers' rights blog about how parents whose financial picture changes might seek child support modifications. Many of these requests are not reported on in the press, but when a high-profile case comes to light, it's a good opportunity to see how these alterations actually come to pass.

Request for child support modification by ex-wife of actor denied

13435666_S.jpgWhile the specifics of every divorce vary depending on a variety of circumstances, certain matters are more likely than others to be contentious. Those including children and money usually top the list and most are probably pleased when an agreement is reached. Individuals may not realize that the agreement may be revisited at a later date should one of the parties seek a modification.

Dads' forum offers hope, solution for single fathers

1448859_S.jpgMissouri fathers who owe child support to their former partners might find themselves running afoul of the legal system when they are unable to meet their obligations. Often this is through no fault of their own. The loss of a job can make life more difficult for parents to make ends meet for themselves, let alone to keep current with their child support payments.

Should you pay both of your exes equal amounts of child support?

21668852_S.jpgIn St. Louis, people who have children from more than one relationship may end up with multiple child support orders. The orders may not be identical for each relationship. For example, the amount of child support a father pays for a daughter from his first marriage may be more or less than the amount he is ordered to pay for a daughter from his second marriage.

What to do when you fall behind on child support in Missouri

13322990_S.jpgMany fathers and mothers in the St. Louis area are behind on their child support obligations. This is not necessarily because they are bad parents or because they do not want to support their children, but rather because times are tough. Many people are seeing their wages remain flat, or even decrease, while the costs of all of the essentials - groceries, transportation, medicine and clothing - continue to rise. Such conditions can make it very difficult for people to send those child support checks.

Some Missouri parents rely on timely child support payments

14081896_s.jpgMany parents in Missouri rely on child support. This money goes toward all the essentials in a child's life, like food and clothes. However, it also chips in on things like rent or the mortgage -- to keep a roof over the child's head -- and gas -- in order to get the child around, like to dance recitals and football practice. The parent also needs to be able to get to work in order to continue to provide.

Allen Iverson's ex-wife wants $1.2 million in child support

13044484_s.jpgIn the past, NBA star Allen Iverson has run into issues when it comes to paying child support on time. In an effort to try and avoid this, his ex-wife has asked for Iverson to pay upfront the $1.2 million that would cover the lifetime of his child support payments.

Some Missouri fathers question where child support money goes

18184827_s.jpgA common complaint among fathers in Missouri who are paying child support is that while they are handing over a large percentage of their income every month to their ex-wives, they are still not sure how their money is being spent and if it is even going to the children. Some fear that instead of new clothes for the children, their ex-wives are getting new clothes for themselves with the child support money.

Former Kansas City Royals player behind on child support

15388037_s.jpgDanny Tartabull, who played for a number of Major League Baseball teams, is listed as one of the "most wanted" for unpaid child support. At this point, authorities claim the 50-year-old is on the run after failing to pay child support for his two sons. He reportedly owes more than $200,000.

Is child support fair to fathers?

6502091_s.jpgWhen it comes to divorce, some fathers may feel like they get the short end of the stick with child support and alimony. In some cases, fathers may end up feeling like the system is slanted toward women and does not take into account financial hardships, like job lay-offs, which can affect anyone.
