Tips for children and divorce during back-to-school season

Any family going through a divorce knows that it can be a complicated time for everyone involved. With the start of fall getting closer, many children are ready to head back to school. Children can be very nervous about the future, especially when it pertains to a new school year or a pending divorce. Considering this, parents can do several things to ease their children's troubled minds.

Take financial control over your divorce

When going through a divorce, it's important to take control of your own financial situation in order to make sure to get a fair shake out of the divorce settlement. After all, you don't want to be the person walking away from the divorce with no real assets.

Men more likely to gain weight after a divorce

Deciding to get a divorce can mean some real changes. Time with the children may be split between both parents, and one or both spouses may end up living in a new home. However, aside from these common examples that many think of when talking about divorce, it turns out that for men divorce could also mean weight gain.

Many couples separate after seven years, divorce by eighth year

While many couples may decide to split after just a few years into their marriage, and others might file for divorce after 25 years of marriage, recent numbers from the U.S. Census determined that the median for first time marriages to end is at eight years, with the initial separation happening after seven years.

Schwarzenegger changes alimony on divorce filing to yes

While it's not 100 percent known why Arnold Schwarzenegger at first expressed interest in not paying his soon-to-be ex wife Maria Shriver spousal support, some are saying that the former governor may have decided for public relations reasons it's better to offer not only alimony payments, but also to pay for legal counsel.

Ex-husband must pay $750,000 for late divorce settlement payment

The chief executive of an international financial group has been ordered to pay his wife in excess of $750,000 in interest charges on a $7.5 million payment that was previously agreed upon as part of the couple's divorce settlement. The claim is that by being late on the payment, he would have to pay her interest dating back to June of 2005 when the agreement was made.

Hiding money and purchases can lead to divorce

A National Endowment for Financial Education survey found that financial infidelity - where one spouse hides an aspect of finances from their partner - is somewhat common among married couples. And while many might think that hiding money or buying a minor purchase without a discussion is not that big of a deal, it turns out that it's actually a reason that many couple's end up filing for a divorce.
