Child Support Archives

Alienation can affect child support rulings

10892151_S.jpgThere are various aspects to divorce, and family law matters get further complicated when children are involved. There is a lot on the line with kids. Parents' relationships with their children are at-risk. The well-being and emotional stability of the kids is important to protect. And the financial security of the parties is impacted by family law issues and disputes.

Respecting the privacy rights of parents who pay child support

18985415_S.jpgWe have previously written that child support is among the more "loaded" topics in family law. Regardless of whether they pay or receive child support, nearly everyone involved has an opinion. And for the parents on the paying end - often fathers but not always - reminders to pay child support can feel like a moral judgment. No one wants to be thought of as a "deadbeat."

What to remember if an ex is requesting too much in child support

34329912_S.jpgThere are many parents across St. Louis who are understandably nervous about paying child support. While mothers and fathers know that child support can be essential and is intended to contribute to the best interests of their child, the fact remains that it is still a financial obligation that many people are not quite prepared for.

Fathers' rights topic: The double standards around child support

21668852_S.jpgConsider the following two scenarios about a former couple who shares child custody. In the first scenario, the child's father earns vastly more money than the mother. As such, he pays thousands of dollars in child support each month. He then petitions the court for a reduction in child support, alleging that the child's mother is basically refusing to find work.

House bill would change child support rules for college students

17449593_S.jpgThe Missouri House of Representatives passed a bill last week that the Senate has already scheduled a hearing for. The bill relates to child support payments for children who enroll in an institution of higher education after high school.

When child support and college tuition merge

20010236_S.jpgWhen minors turn 18-years-old, they become legal adults. As a result, society tends to expect them to fend for themselves financially and socially unless their parents choose to help them out in some way. However, courts seem to be increasingly embracing the idea of ordering non-custodial parents to pay college tuition support as an extension of either divorce settlements or general child support obligations.
