Fathers' Rights Archives

Need for paternity tests on the rise across the U.S.

15202259_s.jpgIt is a typical business day with people lined the city streets on their lunch break. Suddenly an RV comes driving past with "Who's Your Daddy?" written on the side. While for some this question may mean nothing, for some fathers it instantly raises questions regarding paternity.

Female advocacy group pushing for fathers' rights

15640847_s.jpgWhen it comes to fathers' rights -- meaning equal custody and visitation time -- this is something that affects not only dads, but the entire family -- including ex-wives and children. And, while the courts are starting to come around with shared parenting -- and not always just putting the mothers in charge -- there still needs to be more done.

Father's rights part 2: How fair is child custody?

13786019_s.jpgIn our last post we focused on how some fathers feel unfairly treated when it comes to divorce, especially in terms of being ordered to pay lifetime alimony to an ex-wife who is fully capable of working. However, this is not the only form of gender discrimination, as many men also claim to experience sexism when it comes to child custody.

Father's rights part 1: How fair is alimony?

16634020_s.jpgSexism is not something exclusive to women. Rather, talk to any father who has fought in court for custody of his children or is continuing to pay lifetime alimony to an ex-wife who is capable of working, and many will say sexism is very much alive and affecting the lives of men everywhere.

Child custody in Missouri: Fathers need to know what to expect

13343911_s.jpgWhen a relationship ends it is hard on everyone, especially when there are children involved. However, by pre-planning a little and having an understanding on what to expect from the beginning, fathers have a better chance of being able to accurately articulate their arguments on why a child custody or visitation schedule should be awarded in a certain way.

When mothers try to limit contact with children during divorce

Mothers Trying to Limit Contact.jpgIn divorce it is normal to have hurt feelings, maybe even feel like life would be easier if an ex-spouse was simply never around again. However, when children are involved -- and an ex is a good parent -- trying to stop him or her from being a part of their child's life is selfish and hurts the child.

Playing sports strengthens father-daughter bond

7190205_s.jpgStudies have shown how important it is for daughters to have close relationships with their fathers. In fact, one study published in the journal Development and Psychology found that those girls who grow up with a lower quality of fatherhood in their lives tend to take more dangerous risks during their adolescent years. This is yet just one of the reasons that fathers need to make sure to have an active role in their children's lives, even after a divorce.
