Study finds that long commutes increase the chances of divorce

Have to drive a long way every day just to get to work? Maybe the office is 30 minutes each way, or maybe it's even an hour - or longer - each way. And while this might be somewhat frustrating to the person who has to spend hours every week driving to and from work, it turns out that it may also increase their chance of divorce.

Divorce rates expected to increase as unemployment rate decreases

When unemployment rates rose during the past several years, many sociologists also expected to see the divorce rate rise at the same time. However, when a recent study was conducted that looked at the effect of unemployment on marriage after the recession; sociologists were surprise to see the opposite is actually true and that the divorce rate has actually decreased.

Downed housing market raises questions in divorce proceedings

Who acquires what is a common question and area of stress for many going through a divorce. In the past it used to be that family homes were the largest asset in a divorce, but now with a downed housing market, the person who gets the home may also be the person with the largest financial burden.

Divorce battle continues with who owns the Dodgers

Since 2009 Frank and Jamie McCourt have been in an ongoing property division divorce battle over who owns the Los Angeles Dodgers. At hand is whether Frank McCourt is the sole owner of the team, or if Jamie is entitled to partial ownership. As of now no set-in-stone decision has been made in the property division case, but the couple's court date has been moved to May 11 to give the two more time for possible negotiating.

Study: Parents of twins more likely to divorce

A new study found that couples who have twins as their first born are more likely to get a divorce than those couples who either have no children, or have kids one at a time. And while there are no concrete answers as to why the parents of twins have slightly higher divorce rates, researchers did note that added financial and emotional stress is most likely to blame.

Divorce over 50: Make sure to consider all assets in settlement

Each divorce can have its own set of questions. Who gets the family home? How are the bank accounts going to be split up? And who gets custody of the kids? And while these are all legitimate concerns, it turns out that when people over the age of 50 decide to file for a divorce, they tend to be looking at a whole new set of concerns that those younger are most likely not faced with.
