Is child support fair to fathers?

6502091_s.jpgWhen it comes to divorce, some fathers may feel like they get the short end of the stick with child support and alimony. In some cases, fathers may end up feeling like the system is slanted toward women and does not take into account financial hardships, like job lay-offs, which can affect anyone.

Paternity case turns into child support for rapper Flo Rida

8192193_s.jpgAfter denying being the father of a child, rapper Flo Rida is now being ordered to start paying child support. At this point, Flo Rida, whose real name is Tramar Dillard, is being asked to hand over his financial information to the state's Department of Revenue in order to determine how much he owes in child support to the mother of the child.

Common questions before filing for divorce

16522005_s.jpgThe majority of couples having marital problems in Missouri do not just jump into divorce. Rather, for many, this is something that they have either thought about -- in some cases talked about -- for some time. Or, in others, the possibility of divorce is something at least one of the spouses has thought about for some time.

Infidelity speculation already starts with Murdoch divorce

19986938_s.jpgIn news heard around the world, media mogul Rupert Murdoch and wife Wendi Deng have split up. Murdoch was the one to file for divorce from his third wife. Now the gossip is starting, with some claiming Deng had an affair with ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Female advocacy group pushing for fathers' rights

15640847_s.jpgWhen it comes to fathers' rights -- meaning equal custody and visitation time -- this is something that affects not only dads, but the entire family -- including ex-wives and children. And, while the courts are starting to come around with shared parenting -- and not always just putting the mothers in charge -- there still needs to be more done.

Mother jailed for owing more than $300,000 in child support

8269653_s.jpgChild support is money that goes to the custodial parent by the noncustodial parent. The idea is this money goes toward the care of the children, such as food, clothing and housing. When a judge uses guidelines to set the amount that is owed by the noncustodial parent -- unless a modification is approved by the courts -- this is not something that is optional. Failng to pay child support can lead to a parent being arrested and placed in jail.

Father's rights part 2: How fair is child custody?

13786019_s.jpgIn our last post we focused on how some fathers feel unfairly treated when it comes to divorce, especially in terms of being ordered to pay lifetime alimony to an ex-wife who is fully capable of working. However, this is not the only form of gender discrimination, as many men also claim to experience sexism when it comes to child custody.

Father's rights part 1: How fair is alimony?

16634020_s.jpgSexism is not something exclusive to women. Rather, talk to any father who has fought in court for custody of his children or is continuing to pay lifetime alimony to an ex-wife who is capable of working, and many will say sexism is very much alive and affecting the lives of men everywhere.
