Playing sports strengthens father-daughter bond

7190205_s.jpgStudies have shown how important it is for daughters to have close relationships with their fathers. In fact, one study published in the journal Development and Psychology found that those girls who grow up with a lower quality of fatherhood in their lives tend to take more dangerous risks during their adolescent years. This is yet just one of the reasons that fathers need to make sure to have an active role in their children's lives, even after a divorce.

Part 2: Divorce and finances

10289774_s (1).jpgIn our last post we focused on the importance of thinking ahead before filing for divorce. How would filing now affect a business? What assets would be considered marital property? However, outside of these aspects, from a financial standpoint, also make sure to think about the importance of honesty and the future in terms of retirement.

Part 1: Divorce and finances

13371859_s (1).jpgDivorce can be tricky from a financial standpoint. The issue though is that when it is time to file for divorce, many make decisions based on emotions. While this is understandable, it is not necessarily the right thing to do from a financial perspective. In fact, just rushing through and signing off on paperwork now, can really come back to bite a person in the end.

Visitation schedules can create more balance between parents

13460126_s (1).jpgIt used to be that when two parents got divorced, one parent was granted primary custody and the other was given visitation time. For many parents this was quite frustrating, especially when the courts used to favor mothers. This meant that fathers often only got to see their children every other weekend and some holidays.

Increase in online dating profile evidence seen in divorce court

15175592_s.jpgWhen it comes to obtaining evidence to use against an ex, many angry wives and husbands will go to great lengths to prove the other is a bad parent, or is attempting to hide information. In some cases, these angry soon-to-be ex-spouses will even use information -- inaccurate information -- from an online dating profile in court.

Could legislation reduce the divorce rate in Missouri? - Part 2

16861024_s.jpgAs we discussed in our post earlier in the week, the legislation expected to be introduced in Missouri by the Speaker of the House, Timothy Jones would institute a "responsible spouse" policy that in essence would allow the party who does not want the divorce to be awarded 70 percent of the community or marital property. Not only that, but if the couple has children, the mother would receive custody of the children for the first seven years following the divorce.

Could legislation reduce the divorce rate in Missouri? - Part 1

7715818_s.jpgA recent news article reported that Missouri Speaker of the House, Timothy Jones, is planning on introducing legislation that is aimed at increasing the marriage rate, reducing the number of "out-of-wedlock" babies and making it more difficult to obtain a divorce in the state. Apparently another goal of the legislation is to make it financially less attractive for unmarried women to have children. This is according to a national marriage consultant and co-founder of Marriage Savers.
