Court: sperm donor exempt from child support

A 47-year-old man recently won a court battle protecting him from financial responsibilities associated with children who were conceived through in vitro fertilization with his sperm. This child support case had been going through the court system for the past four years.

Bill in Missouri State Senate could threaten some fathers' rights

The result of one father's 6-year custody battle is a bill introduced by one of the members of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys that would allow an adoption of a child without the father's consent. What many people don't know is that Missouri law requires an unmarried father to declare paternity of a child within 15 days of that child's birth. But what about fathers who are not informed of a partners pregnancy or their pending fatherhood in a timely manner?

Father awarded custody after mother abducted boy

"Other dads might just be a dad, but he's more than a dad," is what one 11-year-old recently said in a news interview regarding how his father fought for years to regain custody of him after his mother abducted him in 2004. Now, the father does have child custody of the boy.

Which couples run the risk of divorce?

It turns out even the happiest couples can end up getting a divorce. And while divorced Missouri couples can probably attest to the fact that a marriage can end for a number of reasons -- like conflicts with parenting, infidelity and arguments over financial choices -- a recent study found that a lack of communication and support from a spouse can often times lead to a divorce too.

Paternity action recommended for kids born to unmarried parents

When a child is born to married parents, there is rarely any question over who the biological father of the child is. However, when a child is born out of wedlock, paternity is one of the questions that can arise.

Wife denied protective order with divorce filing

While there are certainly scenarios where protective orders are necessary in a relationship, there are sadly also situations where one spouse will make false domestic violence claims -- or lie about the fear of abuse -- in order to try and get an upper hand in a divorce or child custody case.

Tax time can be tricky for divorcees

Couples who have recently been divorced, or are currently going through a divorce, do not always get along or even communicate effectively. And while it is certainly understandable as divorce can be rather stressful, this failure to communicate and lack of trust can lead to a number of issues when it comes to filing taxes.

Father upset mother violated plan on religious upbringing

In Missouri, when two parents go through a divorce, part of the process requires them to submit a parenting plan to the court. This parenting plan is intended to create a stable environment and includes specific information regarding how the children will be raised.
