A federal grand jury recently indicted Andre Rison, a former NFL wide receiver, for failing to pay child support. The 44-year-old is accused of owing thousands of dollars in support for a child that lived in another state, at least at the time that the payments were due.
According to the indictment, Rison owes more than $10,000 for one child. He is accused of owing that money from August of 208 until August of this year.
According to sources, with the indictment he was also summoned to appear in court next week.
As of now it is unknown exactly why Rison allegedly stopped making child support payments two years ago or what consequences he could face if found guilty for not following his court-ordered agreement.
And while this case took place in another state, if it had taken place in Missouri the court system would also have taken an accusation of failing to pay child support very seriously.
In general, in any case where a parent stops making child support payments or payments in full -- while the parent may have legitimate financial reasons as to why -- it is up to that parent to explore modification options before it gets to the point that money is owed.
Because of this, if you are a parent who is not receiving the money for your child or children that was earlier decided upon, it's best to speak with a qualified attorney to learn about what legal options can be taken to enforce that child support order.
