Father arrested on warrants for owing $214,647 in child support

Failing to pay child support is an offense that can carry with it some rather serious consequences. And while a parent may be able to skirt by without paying for some time, there are typically officials working for the state who are specifically on the lookout for those parents who have fallen behind or are refusing to make their court-ordered payments.

Study finds that long commutes increase the chances of divorce

Have to drive a long way every day just to get to work? Maybe the office is 30 minutes each way, or maybe it's even an hour - or longer - each way. And while this might be somewhat frustrating to the person who has to spend hours every week driving to and from work, it turns out that it may also increase their chance of divorce.

Japan closer to changing child abduction laws

As previously reported on this blog, Japan ranks very high in terms of international abductions. In fact, the U.S. State Department reports that since 1994 a total of 321 children have been abducted or moved to Japan without both parent's permission. Of those 321 children, none have been returned.

Older children sometimes seem disinterested in visitation times

As children grow and mature it is normal for them to become more resistant to going back and forth between their parents' houses during visitation time. And while this is sure to hurt a father's feelings who just wants to have a good solid relationship with their child, dads should rest assured that in most situations it isn't that their kids don't love them anymore, it's more that they are just now more concerned with being with friends and their growing social life.

Missouri website aims to collect child support more efficiently

A new website used by the Missouri Department of Social Services is expected to improve and expand the collection of non-custodial parent child support payments. The new technology that will be overseen by Policy Studies Inc. will replace an outdated manually-dependent collections process.

Mother ordered to pay $6.1 million for moving children to Japan

A mother who broke a custodial agreement and moved her children out of the country has been ordered to pay the father $6.1 million in damages. And while this does not mean that the children - ages 8 and 10 - will be reunited with their father in the U.S., the father's attorney is hopeful that it may be a step in the right direction with more pressure from Japanese officials for the mother to do the right thing.

Divorce rates expected to increase as unemployment rate decreases

When unemployment rates rose during the past several years, many sociologists also expected to see the divorce rate rise at the same time. However, when a recent study was conducted that looked at the effect of unemployment on marriage after the recession; sociologists were surprise to see the opposite is actually true and that the divorce rate has actually decreased.
